Module 6

The world around us is emerging and changing every day. The students in our schools are challenged with diverse environments and new earning criteria. The students are not the only ones with these challenges, the instructors of the students have to adapt and find ways to teach these students. ”The new literacies require a high level of sophistication from our students,” (Doering & Robyler 2013) this create reasons for integrating more technologies into the classroom.
Advantages
Ebooks, Wiki page, Electronic Outlining, Digital Storytelling
With the language Arts field there are some advantages of integrating new technologies. With writing activities you have to come up with good concepts. Concept mapping software is popular as a pre-writing planning tool. (Doering & Roblyer 2013) Another advantage of technology in the classroom is having the use of auto correction in a writing course. AutoCorrect is a built in feature that automatically detects and corrects misspelled words. (Doering & Robyler 2013)  “Technology offers a natural setting in which students in which students can be positioned as the experts.” (Doering & Robyler 2013) The instructor can also use a Wike page to keep student involed with each other work. A wiki is a collection of web pages located in an online community that encourage collaboration.(Doering & Robyler 2013) Here is a video discussing the advantage of technology in the classroom.
Disadvantages
Teacher understand that technology intergrated into the classroom is a great thing. It create endless amounts of oppurtunities to teach students great things. What if your technology don’t work? This is were one of the problems falls into place. If a teacher base her whole day around the use of a specific technology and it does not work, the teacher day goes downs the drain. Some schools have intergrated Bring Your Own Device. BYOD is a great idea but you run into a problem when you have less foutunate kids with the ability of BYOD. Here is an article discussing some of the cons of technology intergration in the classroom.

WikiSpace Interactive Assignment Adjustments

http://beaux8.wikispaces.com/How+to+Slam

My peers advised me to look into using a different video, that will be more useful for the classroom assignment. I went back and watch it again and notice that the video was a little to aggressive for a young high school class. I look and found another one that would be better. On my how to slam page, I used a video widget to explain some ways that will help to understand how to slam.

Module 5
21st Century Skills for Students and Teachers/ ICT Competency Framework for Teachers
Technology is becoming a big part our education systems. Interactive classroom not only help teacher teach all students at once, but helps with the “Technology Literacy” (Doering Robyler 2013). The interactive lessons will help with the “Knowledge Creation” (Doering Robyler 2013), which is intended to help increase productivity.
Technology use based on problem solving
With interactive lessons, you allow student to become engaged into their own work. The book states, “Students who learn by creating their own products with technologies report higher engagement in learning.” (Doering Robyler 2013) In an interactive classroom you can provide an environment that supports the students. Allowing students to become engage with a powerpoint, that they can answer through their computer or phone device offers “Visual Literacy”, where picture replace text as a communication media. (Doering Robyler 2013)
Constructivist vs. Objectivist
With the way technology is moving through our education system, I believe constructivist best describe the use of interactive classroom and flip charts. Constructivist is hands on instruction and student centered. (Doering Roblyer 2013) the teacher should be the only in the classroom teaching, student teach teachers with everyday experiences. Knowledge is constructed, not transmitted. (Doering Robyler 2013)
Flipchart
This flipchart I found is a writing organization flip chart. This flipchart help with organization of a written work and type of work it is. It helps to be hands on with your students. This would be an “Instructional Technology” (Doering Robyler 2013) instrument. Through this flip chart this will help with self-efficacy (Doering Robyler 2013) which is the belief in their own ability to accomplish the action necessary to learn.
Here is an example of a flipchart.

Module 4

English 10 Literature Wiki
This wiki space, is a 10 grade literature page for Bradford High school. Wikis are a collection of web pages collected in an online community that encourages collaboration. (Doering Roblyer 223) The students use to site to discuss readings from class. This would be a good way to incorporate “Web-Based Learning.”(Doering Roblyer 238) I would like to create a similar page, but I would want the kids to use it as an outlet to express their free writing such as poetry. With the opportunity to get and deliver positive feedback from their classmates work.

Scrolling Text Widget
The scrolling text slide show set up, is designed to give your wiki a face lift. Creating a scrolling text gives a teacher another avenue to post information for the wiki space. I would use it to post picture from class or from some of the literature works. I can use it as a reminder about “Electronic Mentoring,” where students write for distance audience helps motivate and do more.(Doering Roblyer 242)

Free
Widgets

Quote of the Day Widget
This quote of the day widget, is design to allow to insert different quotes for your wiki space. This HTML widget can be aligned vertically alongside your wiki space.HTML is the internet standard for how web pages are formatted.(Doering Roblyer 249) I would use it to inspire kids from past authors to write and read more. In order to become better at your craft you have to practice it. It can be a great way to involve the kids by allowing them to insert their own quotes.

Powered by Calendar Labs
Web Based Lesson

This web based lesson cite helps you create virtual field trips for your class. Electronic field trips fills classroom screens with visual images of place consider to offer some educational value. (Doering Roblyer 239) I would use this avenue to create a trip to search for author’s history, which will help understand their work. Giving them the opportunity to research and take the virtual field trip can become something exciting and different.

Module Three

The way the world works now, you have to be able to search the web and be web literate. As a teacher you have to stay on your toes in order to keep the kids interested. Having access to the web can allow you to revert to video about the subject matter at hand. So you have to start off by understand how and what to look for regarding websites.
What do URLs tell you/students about web sites?
“URLs are uniform resources locations and can better known as internet addresses” (Roblyer Doering 218). When searching for a site or web page you have to know where to put it.   “The line where the URLs is entered is called the address line.” (Roblyer Doering 218) The domain designator explains a lot for the student. Some of the designators are; .com, .edu, .net, .org. For example if a student see and website such as https://www.miles.edu/admissions, the .edu expresses to them that it’s a website of higher education.
How can learning to use search engines help you/students find better information?
Understanding how to use search engines can cut down on the time and miscellaneous use of the search site your using. According to the book “the search engine site provides a lists of topics you can click on.”(Roblyer Doering 219) You can search for a passage that you’re looking for in a book, and stumble on an hit that provide information from scholarly articles which can provide a different outlook on the subject matter. Hits are “pages listed as a result of the search” (Roblyer Doering 219)
What is a Podcast?
A podcast is digitized audio files often saved in mp3 file format. (Roblyer Doering 224) The difference between a podcast and any other audio file you can just simply upload to a computer, is that a podcast can be syndicated or subscribed to. This where you as a teacher can create a page just for your student to perform  their poetry. Podcast typically resembles a radio broadcast or interview. (Roblyer Doering 224) Student can host there podcast with others reverting back to lesson that was covered prior in class.
Google
Google is a search engine site. A search engine special searching program designed to help locate things. (Robuler Doering 219) Google is the first site I go to for everything I need to look for. Images, videos, and other informal outlets are easy to find. I would use it to find different diagrams for how to structure a sentence and even to help me find information for powerpoints. “The pages listed as a result of the search are sometimes called hits.”(Roblyer Doering 219)

ZOHO

Zoho is a site that allows you take your desk with you. As a teacher it’s important to have a backup plan for that misplaced jump drive. As a teacher or student you able to create documents and saved them with having to carry anything around with you. It’s saved as a bookmark on my timeline .Bookmarks are “created list or an organizational online tool.”(Roblyer Doering 218) It would be good to hash tag this site on twitter. “A prefix consisting of a # sign and a topic name” (Roblyer Doering 221)

Outlets For Your Classroom

Collection of developmental resources

 http://www.shutterstock.com

While searching under the collections of development resources, I found the website shutterstock.com."Collection of developmental resources includes; clip art, sound effects, photographs, flowcharts, concept maps, fonts, animations and document templets."(Doering 176) Shutterstock is site that has thousands of picture, videos, and illustrations in which can be used in any professional rim."Photographs provide a powerful resource for authors in all subjects."(Doering 179) As a teacher the use of the site would be great for power point presentation.  It gives you the opportunity to use something besides those dreadful clip arts that remind you of stickmen. As a teacher who may not like to write on the board, using power points maybe an key ingredient to your everyday classroom agenda. Collection of developmental resources would be a form of hypermedia, which is linked media or interactive media. Outside of just power points, a Science teacher may use something outside of the everyday bone skeleton, maybe he/she want to use a different picture to discuss in class.
Audio/Video Hypermdia

One of the better ways for some kids to learn, is to have an visual aid. Technology is advancing everyday, and one the things that kids enjoy doing is watching television. So why not bring that innovation into your classroom."Teachers can capture video of themselves explaining key concepts."(Doering 190) Microsoft Movie Maker is an outlet that allows you to create and edit video and audio. The good thing about this software, it comes standard on most computers with Microsoft programs."Teachers can use either audio or video examples as way to speak discussion or to help students analyze their own behavior."(Doering 190) In a multimedia class this would be the beginner program to use before bumping up to something like Final Cutt Pro. Which is a more advance program. With a teacher that teaches one of the four main subjects, they can use it as a way to interact with their students."Through analyzing information in video format, students learn how people can use visual images to communicate bias and make persuasive augments in advertisements and new stories."(Doering 191) In a Public Speaking class, the students can use the program to create a speech to show the class without having to stand up in front of the student body. This software falls under the audio and video hypermedia.

Helpful site and software with teaching kids how to use Movie Maker along with sample work for first time teachers. Having a guideline to what your doing is a way to help with time management.

Teachers need help teaching

Flash Cards Creation - http://www.studyblue.com/online-flashcards

Sometimes as a student you find it better to remind yourself over and over again until you get it. With flash cards you are able to be your own teacher. This website helps the kids use something they can not live without, and that’s their phone. The study blue site allows you to create the flash cards by phone. Create the definition and take a picture of what your talking about and use you voice to record what your seeing. The app is available for android and iphone. This falls under the category of drill and practice. I would use this form of software to help with a certain definition portion of the subject we are doing during that time. This will fall under the drill and practice.

Jeopardy Game Maker- http://www.superteachertools.com/jeopardy/editgame.php

This software can help create question and answers in the form of the game show Jeopardy. It has the value for each question and separates the questions in set category. This software helps you to create a unique way of using groups during bigger classes to compete against each other. I would use it for a down day or even in the form a test. This would fall under the instructional software.

Think Analogy Puzzles-  http://www.criticalthinking.com/thinkanalogy-puzzles-b1-software.html

This software can help kids understand analogies. It can help them to analysis words and help develop a stronger understanding of vocabulary words. Being able to allow kids to work together helps them to develop relationships with each other while helping his/her classmate. It would fit what I am doing because I plan on going into the Language Arts. This will fall under the problem solving software.

Certificate Maker-  http://www.certificatemaker.com/

This software will would fall under the form of a material generator. This would be helpful when encouraging a student to continue to do better and let them see their progress. In my case as a coach it would help create certificates for my ball players for their participation.

This software would fall under the graphic tools. This site allows you to search and find various of editable picture and signs to create various of art work. I would use this in power points, or to set up a part of speech that would be used in a public speaking course.
